Should we use plastics?

From the brush we use in morning to clean our teeth to the mosquito repellent we use at night, plastics play a very important role in our life. This is the material which has changed our life style.

Yes we should use plastics as without it making of mobiles, computers and all the electronic items is very difficult and nearly impossible. All the circuits and the chips are made only from the plastics. In today’s time it is possible to make plastic which is stronger than steel and even bullet proof plastic is possible. Many parts of space craft are made up of plastic. It is very useful in satellites and fibre optics. It is not that we use plastics for high end use only we can use it to manufacture cheap products which are affordable to poor people.

Plastic is very durable material and it is also resistant to water and electricity so we can use it to make many electric and electronic products. We can make it fire proof and bullet proof also and use it for next generation defence equipments and future weapons. Plastic has revolutionized each and every area of our life and at present to think about our present and future without plastic is impossible.

For farmers also the plastic pipes are very useful as they never rust and so they can be used underground for many years. With the use of plastic pipes water is also not wasted. In the field of medicine also plastics save many lives with each new invention. Disposable syringes have saved us from contagious disease. It is now possible to replace some of our body parts with plastic parts. CDs and DVDs are the gift of plastic. They have made it possible to store large number of songs and videos on them. With their help we can convert our hall into theatre and get the same experience as theatre in the comfort of our home.

Plastic is not destroyable material so it creates lots of pollution. If we bury it in land it cannot be dissolved in the soil so it makes the land barren. If we burn it then poisonous gases mix in the atmosphere. In spite of all its benefits we should use plastic carefully. We should avoid disposable things like glasses, plastic packing and thin bags or any plastic product which can be used once only. When we buy plastic we should buy it of best quality so that it is very durable and we can use it many times. We can be happy as now bio-degradable plastic is also available but at present it is out of reach of common man. So the best that we can do for our environment is to use plastic as less as possible and to use it only where it is really necessary.
