Immortality

On hearing this word many feelings sprout in our mind and even connected scenes are displayed in our mind like ever-green pastures, huge banyan etc
The word is mythical and many persons have tried to be immortal. We can be immortal bodily or spiritually. But the question arises why wish immortality in the first hand. What will we do if we gain immortality? What type of projects can we start if we are immortal? We have known many stories of immortality in our mythology also, like of Bhishman, Kripacharya, Ved Vyas, Ashwathma, Hanuman etc. But the wisest choice is given to Bhishma as he is granted “Iccha Mrityu”, which is death on wish and not immortality. Here if we take accounts of everyone’s life, only Hanuman has made a place of respect in the minds of people and that also not due to his immortality but due to his undefeatable powers and his service to the master. So are we sure we want to be immortal or do we think immortality as a blessing or curse? Myths state that even gods and demons are not immortal. They require nectar to make them immortal.
Some creatures are shown to rise after death and are considered evil e.g. Dracula. They can live on and on for centuries.
But thinking scientifically nectar is used to stop bodily process of ageing and breathing as they are related and sometimes even fertility. But let’s think about the dooms day, which is one fine day when an asteroid strikes our earth wiping out every living thing, so will it be possible for the immortals to survive? And if they survive will they be in proper form? This is the form we know about bodily immortality.
As Hinduism believes spirit is the main thing in our body that connects us to the supreme.
