How can we save water?

Water is the most precious resource available to man. Without water no living thing can live for long. Water is the gift of divine and it should be used carefully.

Our earth is covered by 75% water but it is saline water and not useful for drinking. We can drink water which is pot able and it is available from rain and the snow melting from the mountains in the form of river. It is wise to collect the rain water for our use. In this way we stop the potable water from being wasted. Indian is an agrarian economy and most of our farmers depend on rain water for farming. We should construct check dams for saving the rain water. Also all the houses should have underground tanks to store the rain water and use this water for full year. We can use water coming on our terrace by routing it to underground tank with the help of pipes. In this way it is easy to collect rain water in the underground tank.

Farmers should use water saving techniques like drip irrigation for saving water in their farming. Mainly water is polluted by the chemicals flowing from industries into the rivers so government should be strict with such industries which flow their waste into river without treating the polluted water first. Even in villages rules should be made by the Panchayat for the proper use of water. Village people should be advised not to bath their cattle directly in the river but use separate tanks built near rivers so that pollution of the river can be stopped. In domestic use we should try to stop using shower for bathing and prefer the old method of bucket. This can save more than 50% water we use for bathing. All the leaking tapes and broken pipes should be replaced immediately. At the time of brushing we should not keep the tap open but open it only when needed. These good habits can save lots of water. It is said that in past wars were fought for oil but future wars will be fought for water. In city we are already experiencing the inability of the municipality in providing pure drinking water and so we have to rely on private companies and buy water from them. It has become a very profitable business for these companies.

Trees help in bringing rain but we are cutting them down rapidly so rain is becoming lesser and lesser and we can feel the scarcity of water everywhere. So it is very wise to grow more trees and help the environment and help ourselves. The regions which had very good rain in the past are facing the situation of drought. Why this is happening? This question we should ask to ourselves. Water is life itself. So is said “Save water and water will save you”.
