My Morbi 5#
The Gauris
In 1403 AD two favourite commanders of the Sultan Muzzafarsha,
Fatehkhan and Rushmatkhan won over Morbi and started the Gauri rule which
lasted till the end of fifteenth century. So there was rule of Yavans in Morbi
for that time period.
In the time of Sultan Mahmud Begada Morbi was ruled by the commander
of Yavan Sultan. There is a popular story which says that Khengarji saved
Sultan Mahmud Begada by slewing a tiger with his sword. Khengarji was only
fourteen years old at that time. Pleased with his indomitable courage, the
Sultan bestowed him the district of Morbi on him in perpetuity and ennobled him
with the title of Rao.
