Some errors that made these coins very valuable

Some errors that made these coins very valuable

In order to commemorate the birth centenary of the freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Kolkata Mint released Two Rupees Commemorative coins in the year 1996 but Netaji's Birth date is 23rd January 1897, which means that Kolkata Mint Commemorated his Birth Centenary on 99th Year, which is totally wrong. In order to correct this mistake Kolkata Mint stopped minting of 1996 commemorative issue and instead started minting the new commemorative issue on Netaji’s Birth Centenary bearing the date 1997. So we get 1997 dated two rupees of Netaji commemoration more easily than 1996 dated. Its worth noting that price of regular 1997 coin is around 30 rupees while the price of rare 1996 coin is around 3000 rupees.

In 2007, the RBI issued a 5 rupees commemorative coin honoring Bal Gangadhar Tilak. However, the lettering on the coin in Hindi mentioned Tilak as Tilakji. Bal Gangadhar Tilak is never referred to as Tilakji. Adding Ji at the end of the name is an Indian practice to show respect to the person (eg Gandhiji). At the inauguration of the coin at Delhi, the error was immediately brought to the notice of the authorities. Except for the low number of coins circulated on that day, no other such coins were circulated. Hence this coin became an error as well as rare coin of Republic of India. The price of regular Tilak coin is around 50 rupees while the price of Tilakji coin is around 3500 rupees.

The cover of the case on which the coin is mounted spells the occasion as Janmashaati' instead of Janmashati' in Hindi. But, more in store on the case that writes the martyr's name as Sagat Singh instead of Bhagat Singh. Still in the present scenario the price hasn't increased much but surely it'll surge in the future.

Happy collecting guys, be sure that you are preserving the history in the present form.
